Program Introduction
The Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) undergraduate program at Cornell University is an interdisciplinary major that teaches mathematical, statistical, and computational methodologies needed to design, analyze, operate, and optimize complex systems. The program provides students with core skills in data-driven decision making, mathematical modeling, optimization, statistical analysis, and simulation, enabling them to improve systems and manage resources efficiently across various industries including business, logistics, manufacturing, finance, healthcare, and energy. This program is designated as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) program, allowing international students to benefit from up to 36 months of Optional Practical Training (OPT) in the United States. The ORIE program is offered in both the College of Engineering and the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, with students able to customize their education to their interests through a flexible curriculum. The program provides a balanced education in fundamental science and mathematical principles, specialized technical subjects, and practical application experiences, preparing graduates to be competitive in the job market and ready for graduate studies.
